'Prepare, but don't panic' is India's mantra to counter coronavirus: Narendra Modi
Convening a special meeting of SAARC leaders over a videoconference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reiterated Indian efforts to counter the novel coronavirus. 'Prepare, but don't panic' has been India's mantra to fight the deadly virus, said Modi.
"As we all know, COVID-19 has recently been classified by the World Health Organisation as a pandemic. So far, our region has listed fewer than 150 cases. But we need to remain vigilant," PM said.
SAARC region is almost home to one-fifth of humanity, emphasised Modi. India needs to remain vigilant and aware as the nature of the pandemic demands extreme measures.
Modi added that India took proactive steps and upgraded surveillance mechanisms at multiple levels. He also lauded the external affairs ministry for carrying out successful evacuations from various states.
"Our people-to-people ties are ancient and our societies are deeply interconnected. Therefore, we must all prepare together, act together and succeed together," PM said.
